Not only did Kamala Harris not lose because she campaigned on trans rights, but Trump did not win because he did campaign on removing trans rights. Anti-trans candidates and initiatives lost, and the first transgender member of Congress was elected.

I thoroughly agree with your premise and I'm very aware that men especially are allowed to be as hateful as they wish. It's the same attitude that was present with the Access Hollywood tape. Yes, there were words of "disappointment", but ultimately, it was a "boys will be boys" moment and people elected an adjudicated rapist. And yes, as noted below, anti-trans candidates and initiatives lost and the first transgender member of Congress was elected but that's because people see local and state elections in a different light; maybe it's compartmentalization. People may have voted this way on a local and state election but what about the disconnect that the person they voted for as President has the power to ignore and rule against these developments. This is cognitive dissonance. I live in MO where an amendment to the state constitution was passed to allow abortions up until the point of fetal viability as opposed to an absolute ban on abortions (the only exception is the health of the mother which we all know means nothing) but they also voted for Trump who'll use the Comstock Act to ban medical abortions and will sign a national abortion ban.

Thank you. I’m so tired of the Barrie Weiss’ and Louise Perries of the world smugly blaming woke backlash and gratuitous feminism as if they somehow knew all along. Does the progressive left have its problems? Yes. Has it alienated certain voters? Probably, but, as you say, the right engages in identity politics of its own and has basically won the election spouting them. People need to get a grip.

Thank you. The need and entitlement to control others is key to the Trump voting base and its progenitors. There was a piece in The Guardian yesterday highlighting the rising levels of Femicide here in Northern Ireland. As usual it was begging assistance from Westminster for a special Commissioner to begin to address the increasing sexual violence against and murder of children and women. This will not change anything here as it is part a deep rooted historical legacy originating in the very place that is now being pleaded to for aid. It is partly a leftover social behaviour created by General Kitson’s Dirty War which deployed widespread sexualised violence against innocent civilians across the sectarian divide as a key counterinsurgency tactic. Sexual torture quickly took root as a normal sub rosa male behaviour in this Christian patriarchal society. The point I want to raise here is that it is the historical colonial structures still in place and politically underpinning both the north of Ireland’s Femicide and Trump/Murdoch’s MAGA that need to be exposed and finally dissolved.

Ah yes, it's that time of year when Democrats look to blame anyone but themselves for their electoral losses. You can set your watch to it.
