I retired in 2021 and applied to begin to receive Social Security benefits. I have to admit that the entire process was smooth and efficient. I was able to apply, talk to a representative to be certain that I would receive the maximum amount allowed, select options, and began receiving my benefits in a short while. Knowing that my monthly payments will hit my bank account on a certain day each month allows me to plan my spending. I'm so very tired of reading about how the know-nothings are gutting our governmental services and it's very clear they don't care about who's hurt. They not only don't care about the people who are fired, about their families and communities, but they also don't care about the beneficiaries of those services. My adopted daughter received SS dependent benefits when her biological mother died and I had to go to a local SS office on a few occasions to deal with some minor issues. I was able to resolve the issues each time because of the professional and knowledgable staff at the office. Closing offices assumes that people have transportation and the time to find another open office. I downloaded the 5calls app and call my Congressional representatives (Republicans since I live in MO) a couple of times each week to let them know what I think about their refusal to act in the best interests of their constituents. I call after office hours because I only want to leave a voice mail.
