It’s easy to be pessimistic but in reality tyrants almost always overestimate the support they have. Trump failed in 2020 because he could not comprehend that any Republicans at the state level would oppose him. Putin is finding out the same thing in Ukraine. The key is to keep fighting and exposing trump and his pathetic supporters. When you least expect it the fascists will fall.

And because of gerrymandering at the state and House level, there’s little punishment in trying these fascist things, because it’s only the fraction of a fraction of a fraction that votes in primaries that the politician cares about. For GOPs, many primary voters are MAGAt-brained nutjobs that encourage this type of fascism, and vote/donate accordingly.

I do think Dems can/should be doing more. Sen. Brian Schatz recently mentioned that if Dems aren’t hammering GOPs every day for their fascist BS and sounding warnings, and forcing the media to respond, the casual voter won’t think it’s a big deal, and won’t pay attention.

“Trust the system” is not working. We need to MAKE THE SYSTEM WORK, or we will lose it all.

What specific punishments do you have in mind? Legal ones? Are you suggesting Lee be tried for treason?

What would the appropriate level of alarm look like? "Threat to democracy" articles are legion and have been for a long time. Constant chatter about it on twitter. If you think it needs constant, round-the-clock war-like coverage, consider: 1. There are other really significant problems that need coverage and 2. That style of coverage may not be, indeed hasn't been, good for our culture generally. Also, consider that liberals have been pouring millions of dollars in donations to help candidates running against R's thought to be most anti-democratic. Seems like there is both concern and action behind it. So, again, what would appropriate concern and action look like?
