Great piece. Good to have someone with their trained eye on the ball.

Andreessen's concern about "contempt for the taxpayer" is disingenuous. Did he fight the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which gave him and other wealthy taxpayers massive breaks without cutting spending? Congress is poised to extend that abomination this year, even as we continue to spend $2 trillion more than revenue. Respect for future taxpayers would be demonstrated by balancing the budget; unless DOGE miraculously persuades Congress to deliver on Elon's dream of eliminating about $2 trillion per year in spending, that would mean actually raising taxes.

DOGE kinda reminds me of the Communist party. It’s not “the state,” so to speak, but rather an ideological counter part that’s equal in power to the federal government (it’ll probably have more). They already have their Silicon Valley guys everywhere to make sure no one strays ideologically and to call people’s loyalty into question. Topping it off, they have a lightening fast version of Pravda in Twitter to make sure their propaganda is the first thing people learn about an issue that affects them…. Guess he’s too blinded by thinking he’s a hero on a journey rather than “one of the baddies.”

The DOGE crew are little more than the commissars of the Trump era. During WWII, they were the ones who shot the troops they felt were backsliding. That's their job here, now.
