The attack on funding academic research is closely related to the ongoing efforts to delegitimize facts and replace the rule of law with rule by force. You've captured this in a way I haven't previously seen articulated as clearly and powerfully. Thanks -- this is an important piece and insight.
It's also fundamentally appalling that Congressional Republicans are hiding in a corner as these unconstitutional and illegal actions also deeply hurt the states they represent. I live in MO and the change in NIH funding hits our private and public medical research universities hard, affecting our people and our economy. If these schools can no longer employ as many people, or pay as much, this also affects the local housing market, the grocery stores, movie theaters, etc. The attacks on USAID hurt the agricultural output of MO farmers and ranchers as they can no longer sell to USAID affiliated agencies. Gee, it's almost as if Trump and Musk have no idea how everything works. They want trickle down economics to argue for unnecessary tax cuts, but fail to understand that money does trickle down into local and state economies from the Federal government. I've been calling my Republican Representatives and Senators in the evening (I don't want to talk to anyone and the wait time is less) so I can leave a voicemail, and complain about their votes for unqualified nominees, and their lack of action while Trump and Musk run amuck and harm MO. I'm also reminding them that Trump is a lame duck, Musk is not a politician, but they will bear the brunt of accountability and responsibility at the ballot box. Obviously, I'm not alone as even the recordings warn of an unusual amount of calls slowing things down.

Disappointing that only blue states have signed onto the law suit
