I'm glad to hear you are going to write more about this. I think cogent recording and explication of this particular crime against capacity is a case that people might be able to understand.

The reason Direct File went South: “… it offered a tool for the people that, in theory, the private tax industry agreed should be allowed to use a free service: lower income earners.”

That’s who Doge/Trump is after: the most vulnerable.

I've posted in other social media fora that folks with access to the code and documentation for systems like Direct File need to archive them, within legal limits, so they can be restored or at least reviewed by future administrations that are interested in using civic tech well to improve government services.

There have been really good examples like DirectFile of work done quietly and proficiently to create civic tech solutions that help federal, state, and local governments deliver services well to the people they serve.
